This blog started with our once in a lifetime trip to the United States in October 2010. Now it keeps us in touch with our friends and gives us a place to record our other holiday adventures and general interesting stuff that happens from time to time...

Frustration
uggggh today has been a frustrating day, it's Saturday and it should have been sleep in morning, but that was not to be - it gets light earlier now and i woke at my usual 6.30am weekday get up time. I have spent the day sewing and making a skirt to take away on our trip. It didn't go quite as quickly or easily as it should - frustrating. This morning when i was buying some scissors for the sewing this lady said "hello Christine", and I had no idea who she was - her name was Moira and she knew me from nursing days, but I have no recollection of her - urggh frustrating again. The weather had been cold and overcast and not a day to get the washing dry, so my plans to not use the drier have failed. Power is getting so expensive, never mind the washing is now hanging on the rack beside the fire drying, it has been hung out twice - urggh frustrating. Oh well today is usually my favourite day of the week, because I have time to catch up and cook decent food for my family. today I made some recipe's of the Australia master chef programme for tea, we will see how the family responds to real veges, and fresh food. I like to cook when I have the time.
The Countdown is ON
Wow!, it is all beginning to happen and the countdown has started. Today I went into the travel agent and paid for the trip - well the bit that we are paying for, and it all suddenly seemed real. We now have tickets, passports, visas, and places to stay. I am most excited about Disneyland and the teacups - every little girl's dream. I can remember dreaming about doing this when I was a kid. I never ever thought that it would really happen. EXCITING. Even better is that I am getting to share this with my beloved other half. It will kinda be like a honeymoon all over again. Its 41 days untill we fly out. This time then we will be boarding the plane full of excitement and butterflies, but also a little anxiety about the long trip. Can't wait.

Our little girl all grown up
Welcome to our Blog
Well this is our very first post as we learn about how to use this blog site. It is exactly 44 days untill lift off - or flying from Christchurch to LA via Sydney. I am a little apprehensive about the long flights as the furthest we have ever travelled is to Rarotonga for our honeymoon 18 years ago. There is still much to organise and presents to buy. We have Alex sorted for accommodation, and Abbey is going to go to Te Anau, but we are not organised for Amelia yet. Last night I spent some time researching Disneyland attractions and the driving that we will do from San Jose to Los Angeles. It will be freaky driving on the left right hand side of the road eh.
Richard is most excited about the Grand Canyon. I am planning a surprise for him, but shhh don't tell him. we are planning to stay in the Canyon on a ranch. There are real cowboys, and we will go horseriding at sunset. It is then that I will give him my surprise. I am so excited about that. The next day we are going on a helicopter flight through the Canyon. I will try to post each day depending on internet access so that you can all read what we have been getting up to.
