Wow today has been a busy one for Bumble as he has spent the day at City of Blue Springs meeting various people - Brien Starner (Blue Springs EDC - Economic development strategies), Christine Cates (Blue Springs Finance manager), Attending a MARC regional manager's lunch at the Kansas Speedway. Today I had a quieter day with Sonja and Haley - thank goodness as I am not cut out for late nights and Alcohol - two wines and some beer and gin last night, haven't drunk that much in a long time. We went to the Independence shopping mall and all I can say Is wow - Emily you were right that the shopping in the US is fun. There were so many shops that it was almost overwhelming. I particularly enjoyed the cosmetic and perfume store. I purchased some Coco Chanel mademoiselle for less than $100 - that would be $280 at home. I also got Richard some aftershave and some body cream - total of all these purchases for less than $200. It was a luxury, but not to be missed at that price. Sorry Amelia they didn't have Paris.
This afternoon the temperature climbed to well over 80 Fahrenheit (above 28 oC) and I literally melted. Sonja took pity on me and turned on the air conditioning as they considered it tolerably warm here.
We also had a quick trip to the grocery store and it was fun looking at all the products and comparing prices - Our fruit and veges are heaps more expensive yet our chips and fatty foods like packaged chips are about the same price. That is a real concern.
Guess what I finally manged to see today - A squirrel - yep they have no longer evaded my sight. The are quick small and really cute with a bushy tail.
This evening has been a real highlight we were privileged to be the guests (Our label said Honoured Guests) of the Mavericks Ice Hockey Team and the City Administrator of Independence (like our CEO's). Independence is a city of 135 000 citizens and neighbours Blue Springs. We were escorted on a private tour of their new facility which has two large ice hockey fields indoors, and seating for 6000 people. Independence built this facility to encourage families to their city and it also set up a very successful professional Ice Hockey Team - THE MAVERICKS. We were once again treated like royalty and got to view the whole game in a suite. There we met two mayors - one for Independence, and one for ???. Also there were some elected officials present (Councillors). At second period (quarter) we had a surprise visit from the CEO of the Mavericks and he presented us with a bag full of goodies. This on top of the game was such an honour. I LOVE ICE HOCKEY. It was fast - very fast, and full of action, fights, bashes, spills, and action. I'm hooked. The Mavericks won their game 8 -1 to the Ice Bergs. At the game - as the picture shows we got to sample cotton candy (candy floss), root beer, and popcorn. All Yummy.
